Terms of Use
Last updated July 11, 2026
Welcome to Parental Compass. By using our website you agree to these Terms of Use. They exist to keep the site useful, honest, and safe for the families who rely on it. If you don’t agree with them, please don’t use the site.
1. Who we are
Parental Compass is an independent, parent-owned book review platform reachable at our contact page. “We,” “us,” and “our” refer to Parental Compass. “You” refers to anyone who visits or creates an account on the site.
2. What we provide
We publish reviews, ratings, and recommendations for children’s and teen books, plus tools to help parents, teachers, and librarians find age-appropriate titles. Our ratings are editorial opinions written by humans; see Our Review Process and How We Rate Books for details.
3. Your account
If you create an account, you agree to provide accurate information and to keep your login credentials confidential. You’re responsible for activity that happens under your account. You may delete your account at any time from your account settings or by emailing us.
4. Acceptable use
Please don’t use the site to:
- Break the law or infringe anyone’s rights.
- Post content that is harassing, hateful, sexually explicit, or targets minors.
- Scrape, spider, or bulk-download our reviews without written permission.
- Interfere with the site’s security, performance, or other users’ experience.
- Impersonate a reviewer, staff member, or another user.
5. User-submitted content
When you submit a comment, review, list, or other content, you keep ownership of it and grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to display, distribute, and adapt it in connection with the site. You’re responsible for what you post and confirm you have the right to share it. We may remove content that violates these terms or our Editorial Guidelines.
6. Our content
Our reviews, ratings, articles, design, and code are protected by copyright and belong to Parental Compass or our contributors. You may share links to our pages and quote short excerpts with attribution, but please don’t republish full reviews without written permission.
7. Affiliate links
Many book links on the site are Amazon Associates affiliate links, meaning we may earn a small commission when you buy through them at no extra cost to you. Full details are on our Affiliate Disclosure. Affiliate revenue never influences our ratings.
8. Third-party services
We link to and integrate with third parties such as Amazon, publishers, analytics providers, and email tools. We don’t control those services and aren’t responsible for their content, pricing, availability, or policies. Your dealings with them are between you and them.
9. Guidance, not professional advice
Our ratings describe what a book contains and offer suggestions to help you decide what fits your family. We are not psychologists, pediatricians, or educators for your specific child. Use our guidance alongside your own judgment about what’s right for the young readers in your life.
10. Disclaimers
The site is provided “as is” and “as available.” To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We don’t warrant that the site will be uninterrupted, secure, or error-free, or that book details, pricing, or availability shown on third-party sites will be accurate.
11. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Parental Compass and its team will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits or revenues, arising out of your use of the site. Our total liability for any claim relating to the site is limited to USD $100.
12. Changes to the site and these terms
We may update, suspend, or discontinue parts of the site at any time. We may also update these Terms of Use; when we do, we’ll change the “last updated” date at the top of this page and, for material changes, give reasonable notice on the site. Continued use of the site after changes means you accept the updated terms.
13. Termination
We may suspend or terminate access for anyone who violates these terms or misuses the site. You may stop using the site at any time.
14. Governing law
These Terms of Use are governed by the laws of the United States and the state where Parental Compass is operated, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles. Any disputes will be resolved in the state or federal courts located there, and you consent to that jurisdiction.
