About Parental Compass
The book question every parent asks, answered by other parents.
Parental Compass is an independent book review platform for families. We read children’s and teen books cover-to-cover so you can decide what belongs on your child’s shelf — without having to read every book yourself.

Why we exist
Every parent has asked some version of the same question in a bookstore or library aisle: “is this book okay for my kid?” Publisher blurbs won’t tell you. Age ranges on the back cover are marketing. Reviews on the big retailers optimize for the wrong thing. So we do the reading — carefully, honestly, with a parent’s eye — and publish what we find.
What makes us different
- Independent. Not owned by any publisher, imprint, or media group. Ratings are not for sale.
- Human reviewers. Every rating is written by a parent, teacher, librarian, or child-development professional — not by AI.
- Transparent. Every rating cites sources. Every correction is dated. Every conflict of interest is disclosed.
- Fair. We describe what a book contains and let parents decide, rather than pushing any single worldview.
How we’re funded
We earn a small commission when parents buy books through our Amazon links and we run privacy-respecting display ads on some pages. None of it influences a single rating — our reviewers are paid a flat rate and have no visibility into ad or affiliate revenue. Full details are on our Transparency and Affiliate Disclosure pages.
